You are woken up by hush whispers and the smell of smoke feeling your lungs. It burns and you feel tears well up in your eyes as your brain tries to process what is happening. You hear a familiar voice cooing at you to prevent you from crying despite the discomfort you felt.
You are confused.
You don't feel a sting of pain, or the blinding white lights that you have come to associate when be woken up to like any other day which adds onto your confusion.
You are being held tightly in the arms of someone familiar even if it happens to be by scent alone...everyone looked the same to you with all their coats, adult talk, and false smiles. How was an infant suppose to remember anything or even try to comprehend the new sensations? This person was different the way they treated you unlike the others with their cold fingers and too high pitched voices. The way you are being held allows you to look over your carrier's shoulder at another familiar face wondering why there is fear lingering in their eyes as the colors of reds, oranges, and yellows dance around in the background.
You don't learn that word until many years later, but the colors entice your young mind and you can't help but to babble in awe. You don't understand in the moment how the building on fire was related to the burning sensation of smoke filling your lungs just minutes before until you are an adult saving lives from such mess. The only place you've ever known was now a blaze of glory because two scientists wanted to make sure that you stayed alive and out of harm's way. They cared for you, grew attached, and now with their success lingering in your genetic code...you had to be hidden. No more experimenting on you, or even allowing the chance for you to be used to experiment on future infants.
You were one in a million.
You were special.
Somehow you ended up in the hands of a kind woman known as Michelle Walthers who knew just how to get you out of the grubby hands of VersaLife with their subsidiary White Helix Laboratories burning to the ground. She gave you up for adoption in which you spent the first five years of your childhood in a system before finding loving parents by the name of Arthur and Margie Jensen. You were adopted, you had a family, and the events from infancy nothing but figments as you enter a fresh start at life. You had a relatively normal childhood and adolescence - unaware of your true origins or the fact that your adopted parents were not your birth parents.
Life is good for you as you successfully graduate from Phoenix University and Ferris College with a Bachelor's Degree of Criminal Justice followed by joining the Detroit Police Department at the age of 21. You were a strong unit of the force and after four years, you wanted something more, so...you applied for the SWAT team and were approved under the command of Quincy Durant.
You easily make it through the ranks settling as commander of SWAT Team Two with your men following your every command. Things looked good for you, you had a wonderful career going for you but things like this do not last. You know they don't because of how corrupted and immoral the authority appear when things get tight or someone with money wants something to happen. It was MexicoTown that drove the last nail into your preverbal coffin on the idea of resigning from the force. You were given an order to kill a frightened augmented fifteen year old boy who was labeled as dangerous.
You are not a man who idly followed orders from faces you've never seen, nor were you a man with backward morals and twisted views.
You declined to take the shot.
To kill a kid.
The orders were given to someone else after you had already turned from the scene and the deafening sound of gunfire filled the air as you kept walking. You did not need this. You were better than this and so, you left. Riots broke out over the incident and you were used as a scapegoat but that was all behind you now. You were not going to linger on that part of your past as you know you'll learn from your experiences and become something better. Your girlfriend, Megan Reed, convinced her boss to hire you as Chief of Security of a renown facility that would alter your life even more.
You had just reached your boss's office when the alarms blared.
Your initial reaction was something went wrong in the lab, nothing serious, but nonetheless as Chief of Security you followed Sarif's orders and went to inspect the disturbance. Francis Pritchard, the head of cyber-security division (and a friend), mentioned that Megan's G-P-L showed her running which meant that something dangerous was happening and that sparked up your concern. Your experience as a cop had you on full on alert when you stepped from the elevator spotting the damage that came with the invasion.
You've seen bodies.
The years on the Police Force and S.W.A.T has trained you to become immune to those that are dead even if they were colleagues. Your focus was getting to Megan - she needed to be safe.
It didn't matter that Megan and you split, it was a mutual agreement but you couldn't help to feel the need to protect her. You weren't just going to let her and her research walk in dangerous territory just because of a break-up. She was always more invested in her work anyways. You had your own career to focus on and feelings weren't something that needed to get in the way.
There was this big hearing in Washington that needed security details doubled check, the scientists of Sarif Industries were going to show something huge and last thing anyone needed was for everything to go wrong...except it still did.
You were caught unaware, your gaze met that of an Augmented being as you struggled only to find yourself being thrown through a wall of glass. You felt the sharp edges bite and pierce your body. You struggled to breath as the impact your body had dealt when hitting the wall was substantial. You still struggle to fight focused on the being that threw you in the first place. You cough up blood barely able to move as your gaze focuses on the barrel of a magnum. You could hear Megan being taken somewhere, the smell of fire feeling your lungs, and the creeping feeling of death grasp at your broken frame.
You were shot point blank as everything faded to black. Surely this was the end of the road, the end of living and trying to protect those that couldn't defend themselves. You always thought of yourself one of the good guys - you've tried to be what most were not.
David Sarif knew that your injuries were fatal, he knew of your genetic code that made you so important to the Industry in the first place, and he knew that he could not lose you. There was a clause hidden in your contract that allowed him to alter you...to make you better (or worse)...an Augmented Human. Your body easily handled all the augments that he threw at you during the surgeries to save your life. You may have not known what was going on during the brief periods of awareness only that everything hurt. You were given the best but due to injuries you wouldn't be getting access to everything.
It didn't faze you, you had bigger issues to worry about and that was accepting what the hell happened to you.
When you awoke you didn't know how to deal with your new additions. You were given time to heal, to recuperate especially after finding out about the deaths of the important scientists - including Megan. You find yourself staring at your reflection for the first time in the bathroom of your new apartment. Unable to control your knew limbs and out of anger of them altering you, your fist smashed your mirror as you try to feel something other than anger. Hell, you couldn't even see yourself bleed from the glass with your fist being made of machine.
Six months, and you find yourself back inside Sarif Industries being called off your medical leave early. It doesn't bother you because it is a distraction...something much needed. You are tasked with stopping an infiltration at one of the Industries' manufacturing plants, you needed to retrieve an experimental augment from landing in the wrong hands: Typhoon Explosion System. Something deadly that didn't need to be revealed earlier than anticipated or else tings could get messy. All of this led you to discovering something much bigger and more dangerous than one could have imagined.
It would seem that time for resting was now over with no intent of turning away until you discovered your answers whether by legal, or illegal means.
You find yourself going to Hengsha, China. During these events the itching feeling that something was missing, that something wasn't quite the way it seemed in the pit of your gut...came to light. van Bruggen, the hacker responsible for trying to steal Intel on Sarif Industries, claimed that he was just the middle man who was hired by Zhao Yun Ru, to lay the groundwork for a hostile takeover by her own company, Tai Yong Medical. Upon traveling to TYM tower, it revealed a recording from the hacker van Bruggen from six months earlier...showing Zhao speaking with Namir in advance of the attack on Sarif Industries. It also reveals that the scientists "killed" during the attack on Sarif Industries six months prior had actually been kidnapped and taken to an unknown location, as well as that Picus TV newsreader Eliza Cassan was involved. You left Tai Yong Medical with determination to reach Montreal to find more answers from Ms. Cassan...only to realize you were talking to a hologram when you reached the room she was last located in.
With more exploration, you found a hidden room thanks to Pritchard, that led you to finding out the truth about Eliza Cassan as well as letting the Tyrant known as Fedorova to die by your hands. You didn't have much time to linger on the fact that she was some sort of "super" Artificial Intelligence as you were in the middle of a breakthrough that needed tending to. On your way back to Detroit you watched the chaos from above as riots broke out all over. This wasn't new news but to see the way individuals destroyed things and the lick of flames dancing across the old buildings was never a pretty sight.
It was a reminder of how much chaos lived in everyone.
Isaias Sandoval, personal assistant to America's most outspoken augmentation oponent, and the man tasked with removing the G-P-Ls within the SI scientists ended up only lowering the frequencies otherwise they would have died if he pursued the surgery. You find this both comforting and disorienting as once again you find yourself back to square one with the missing Research Team. You go to meet up with Sarif to learn that Pritchard found out the location of one scientist that could possibly lead them to the others, Sevchenko's. Hengsha was your destination once more only this time your flight had to take a detour which ended the VTOL (plane) getting taken down by an EMP blast leaving you and the pilot, Malik, fending off an ambush. You weren't going to leave her behind, she was too valuable of a friend to let her die from these thugs, so you stayed. You survived. She got to fly out leaving you behind on your mission which was all you could have asked for.
Finding Sevchenko ended up being a dead end as the scientist had been killed and his Augmented parts had been harvested by individuals known as Harvesters therefore the G-P-L chip led to nowhere. You run across a man named Tong who tasked with you finding his son Tong Jr. in exchange for answers that could lead to a new direction. You were directed to look into Belltower Docks where you slipped into a shipping crate housing cryo-pods to escape an explosion.
Things seemed to be going easy enough for you as you try to take a breath to collect all that has happened expect you are found hidden aboard the ship, Hei Zhen Zhu. Your blood roars in your ears as you face down the sudden exposed attacks being able to take eight of their people down before being subdued, tortured, and locked in an EMP chair, rendering you useless. A mysterious hacker that you thought might have been Pritchard helps you escape after being tasked with returning a favor for the freedom. You had your course in mind although you had no idea were it would lead you. You had no other leads and put your faith in the Hacker that you helped and vise-versa.
Several days later you awake in an unknown location that you later learned to be known as Omega Ranch (biotech lab facility) located in Singapore after you reinstated connections with Pritchard. This was it, this was the time to get to the end of things and with Pritchard's instructions, you were able to disable a signal-jammer allowing the location of the remaining Research Team to be revealed. You were able to find everyone but Megan at the time in which you helped them devise a plan to infect the ranch's computers with a virus that Sevchenko created before his death. As you worked with securing the area you crossed paths with Zhao and Namir once again. The fury you felt against them was strong as you called out the Illuminati's plan dealing with the new biochip upgrade which was actually a kill switch to make Augmented people easier to control. You find yourself in combat effectively ending Namir's life but Zhao escaped.
Having your sights set on a previous objective, you finally found Megan, alive and well. You learn that she had been tricked into modifying the new biochips into believing that they would stop the Illuminati from taking over the Augmented people...when in reality it was Hugh Darrow's (the man who invented augmented technology) intention to allow him to project terrible hallucinations effectively making Augmented people go insane. You watched as the signal was activated making all Augmented go crazy all around the world.
Megan urged you to try and shut down the signal but that had already been a matter on your mind. You opted not to change your original biochip, your DNA allowed it to prevent complications that a normal Augmented person would have had to endure. You had to make sure the remaining scientists escaped before you took a shuttle to Panchaea, the location that held the signal as well as Darrow.
When you arrived your stomach twisted upon itself at the sight of those that had been driven insane to the point of killing those that weren't Augmented. This made you block out what the scenes were all over the world. You made your way through the complex where you confronted Darrow who had insisted that humanity had taken his gift of technology and twisted it. He used the excuse to remind humanity that technology was dangerous...mankind didn't need it to evolve. You ignored the man's pleas to let the message continue, this wasn't right and you descended to shut down the signal. At the bottom you found the Hyron Core, a computer that used human drones as living processors. Zhao appeared again trying to hook herself up to the Core only for her biochip to be rejected which caused them to attack. You had no other choice but to kill them all, including Zhao, but in the long run you felt death was a mercy to the drones with no life.
You've faced a lot.
You've learned a lot in your search for the Research Team.
None of this could prepare you for the decision you had to choose concerning the incident that you just stopped when you destroyed the signal. You were contacted by Eliza Cassan, who gave you the option of sending out Darrow's confession with different edits of the message with advice from different individuals. The thing tough, none of those people were there during the events that you were forced to witness first hand. You know that there is too much damage to the world that anyone would listen to any message you cast outside no matter who's advice, so you do what your gut tells you. It is not your choice to govern mankind and you can only hope that they will figure it out themselves. You chose to destroy the facility killing the remaining people and wipe out all information that lingered to the Augmented Incident.
You felt the crushing weight of water suddenly sweep you up as the self-destruct activates and maybe, just maybe you would find some relief in the life after this.
When you awake in a facility, you learn that you were rescued from the wreckage of Panchaea being kept alive by your RX Health System. You were told that you have been in a coma for a year with no recollection of what has happened in the world since that fateful day. You escape the facility...you begin anew with trying to uncover answers of what happened to the world in the time of your slumber.
Somehow, you ended up joining both the Juggernaut Collective (global hactivist group bent on stopping corruption particularly the Illuminati)and Task Force 29 (anti-terrorist organization) under the command of Jim Miller. Your days as security were over but that didn't stop your desire to protect those now more than ever. The hate-crimes between Augmented and Naturals were as terrible as ever and more-so in Prague, the origin place of your new occupation.
Six months after joining TF29, your group finds itself last minute heading into a mission in Dubai to break up an illegal arms deal when things take a turn and everyone is ambushed by golden-masked mercenaries. You get the undercover-agent into safety as you make your way back to Prague. Things don't add up and you believe the Illuminati wanted your team to see something, but what, you did not know.
You didn't have much time to linger at Růžička Station as you traveled on with a fellow Collective member, Alex Vega, ended up being bombed by terrorists. Your augments get messed up as you struggle to collect your bearings as well as make sure your companion was safe. Your stomach twist itself into knots when you heard a child crying out for his mother as you closed the distance between them and yourself. You struggled to free the mother from the rubble only to watch her outstretched hand fall limp within your own.
Things were dangerous and nothing was worse than seeing innocents both Naturals and Augmented injured in the foil of another's war.
Your systems were damaged and you needed them repaired after a night's rest of the bombing. You make your way over to Vaclav Koller, a friend and doctor of sorts that knew how your system worked. You get yourself patched up only to discover that your body housed experimental military-grade augments that were not gifts of David Sarif. Something happened to you during the months you were unconscious at the healing facility in Alaska but you didn't have time to let yourself linger on that matter. You had terrorists to deal with and despite the Task Force assigning you to the Station Bombing case, you worked a parallel investigation with the Juggernaut Collective. You learn that ARC (Augmented Rights Coalition) was being framed for all of the recent attacks both Dubai and the train station. Once again you were dealing with more questions that needed to be answered and the only way you were going to get them was by going into the heart of the beast.
The place were "illegal" Augmented Humans were taken for their own security when in reality it was an utter shit-hole used to keep them inside like prisoners. It was the home of ARC's leader, the man you were tasked with bringing in for questioning, Talos Rucker. Things seemed to go smooth, the man was going to turn himself in willingly but something happens and next thing you know - he's dead. Poisoned. You didn't like the thought of going back empty handed but you had to and you would deal with whatever shit was thrown your way.
You return to Prague, you discover the person responsible for the bombing at Růžička Station, but you also end up being put on the spot. Your orders were related to the train station attack, but you also were tasked with getting Intel on Orchid for the Juggernaut Collective located within Palisade Bank.
Do you help save Allison, a promise you made to her father - or - do you go on a bank heist that houses information that would effectively be lost due to VersaLife clearing it out? The choice weighs heavy on your chest as you are once-again thrown into a situation that you don't want to be in. Do you defy orders from Miller, or follow them? You take the former, something in your gut urges you to take the heist because losing one life is better than losing thousands to some unknown super-weapon especially if there was a chance of a cure. You swallow past the guilt that worms itself into your very soul when you get the call that Allison had died, but with the choice already decided...you push forward. You find what you were looking for and acquired a vial that appeared to have a dose of antibiotics to save an infected person's life.
Miller was pissed, the Collective had their answers but all-in-all you dealt with the consequences and later ended up tasking with surveying a compound in the Swiss Alps known as GARM.
It was a trap, you should have guessed given the luck you have been having, but nonetheless you were caught off guard by Viktor Marchenko, one of the terrorists leaders behind the past events. He tries to kill you, poison you with the Orchid just like Rucker, but death is a friend and you do not die. Your specialized DNA prevents it from happening and you find yourself escaping the compound with even more information...one that could throw the world in another spiral.
Except, you didn't make it.
Your body ached when you found yourself inside another hospital. Your limbs were heavy when you learned that you were in a different place...no...world. You were in a whole new world after being dragged from the snowy mountains of the Swiss Alps. Of course, you didn't believe it. Not at first, there was too much at stake for you to be trapped in some la-la land but once you fully recovered you accepted the fact.
You were trapped in Elysion.
You still had an antidote to Orchid.
You didn't know what you were going to do only that you were not one to sit idly by and let answers fall into your lap. You are determined to find answers and with your skill set, you know you would be just fine in this world.
