"In Lilt, when someone dies, their bodies are eaten by crows. I witnessed the funeral of a young mother who had died while still with child. It is believed that deceased's spirit was taken to heaven by the crows. It must have been no different with the soul of this mother. The baby, who's destiny was to die with his mother, must have wanted to chase after her spirit. His longing must have drawn in the crow anima."
You were born in a village called Lilt, and your birth had always been shrouded in mystery.
The sisters told you that one day, a shaft of light landed on one of the altars and they found you as an infant, sleeping on a pile of soft flowers with a pair of black wings folded delicately across your back.
Although you were an orphan, the sisters and teachers were all very nice and you received no shortage of love, growing up in the church. You became a very happy, carefree, and easy-going child. However, your head was always adrift in the clouds – in more ways than one. You carried the spirit of an anima: the power of a crow. This granted you the ability to summon a pair of sleek black wings at your will and take to the skies.
Your favourite thing in the world was flying. There was nothing much like feeling the air rush beneath your wings as you conquered the sky and claimed it as yours. It was a feeling of sheer ecstasy and freedom. A feeling like no other. You never wanted it to be taken away from you.
Since crows were traditionally associated with funerals, it was generally thought of that crows are messengers of death or bad omens. You were not spared this superstition, given that you had black wings. But you never let this bother you. The sisters told you that white angels are messengers from heaven and that black angels are messengers of death… but the world needed both types.
During your childhood, you were taken away to a research facility by Astarian officials. There, they experimented on you and your +anima. The head researcher, Fly, took advantage of your naivete and tricked you into promising to give him your +anima spirit when you grew older.
Soon, the researchers discovered that you possessed the unique ability to sense the presence of other +anima. Fly decided that harnessing this skill would be advantageous to recruit more research subjects to the facility. He assigned you with the task of finding as many +anima as possible and to bring them back.
Thus, you wandered around in Astaria, searching for many more like you. But given your childhood innocence, you were more interested in exploring and having fun than fulfilling your assignment. And as time passed, you soon forgot about it altogether.
There was a circus in town. You had no money but you were curious to see what was inside. You told yourself that you'd only have a quick glimpse as you poked your head into one of the tent flaps. To your amazement, the ringmaster introduced what he called a beautiful mermaid. But you sensed who she really was: a fish +anima.
Still, she was beautiful and you couldn't keep your eyes off her. Unfortunately for you, you caught the attention of the ringmaster. The ringmaster called out, saying that you weren't allowed to watch for free. You were grabbed, yanked out of your hiding place, and thrown onto the ground. Not good. Fortunately, you had one trick up your sleeve.
You jumped up, summoned a pair of black wings and attempted to escape. "Sorry for not paying!"
You dived for the exit, but your clumsiness caused you to crash into a nearby wooden pole that was holding up the tent, causing the entire canvas to crash down. By the time you had recovered, you looked up, only to see the mermaid – now with normal human feet – emotionlessly stare down at you. Then, they hit you with a stick and you fell unconscious.
When you came to, you found yourself lying in bed. Pretending to be asleep, you evesdropped on a nearby conversation. It was the ringmaster and the mermaid. You learned that mermaid's name was Husky and that your suspicions were confirmed to be correct. Husky was indeed a fish +anima… which only meant one thing:
"If you can swim, you can catch fish! I bet they taste good!"
You ran up to Husky and held their hands tightly, asking them to leave the circus and accompany you on your adventures. To your surprise, Husky pushed you away and shouted back at you. They said that while they were indeed leaving, you were to take their place. (Husky also added that they were actually a boy, not a girl.)
The next day the ringmaster woke you up, stating that since you had watched the circus without paying, you needed to work to pay off your debt. You were to be part of a new circus attraction; to use your black wings and pretend to be a 'messenger of death' who kidnapped the 'mermaid'. Instead, you knocked over the tank which Husky was in, picked him up, and escaped away from the circus.
And thus began your adventures.
As you journeyed across Astaria, you befriended more +anima along the way and invited them to join your little group, such as Senri, the bear +anima, and Nana, the bat +anima. Every day was full of shenanigans. You never wanted it to end. With your ragtag team bunch of misfits, you laughed together, cried together, messed around, and did everything together.
You were always the one who was optimistic and looked on the bright side of things. When a pair of homeless kids stole bread from you and your friends, you chased them all the way into an underground abandoned mine. Instead of feeling trepidation at the thought of being lost in a place so vast, you turned it into a game. It was a race! And the prize was the stolen bread.
Another time, you were lost in a cavern with only Senri for company and both Husky and Nana had disappeared into the never-ending darkness. Instead of despairing, you turned things around. You built a small fire and sat and waited for them to return. Because you got bored, you sang a little cheery song. Eventually they showed up, having followed the sound of your voice. You knew that things always worked out in the end.
As childish and fun-orientated as you were, you also were incredibly obedient and submissive. You were an extreme doormat. You smiled through it all hardships and never go against another's choice, even if you wanted to. You had once made friends with a teenager with dreams to one day use a kite to fly. When he falsely assumed that you were mocking him, he angrily told you to leave. Although it broke your heart, you did as he asked.
You were the loudest, most reckless, and impulsive. You followed wherever your heart desired without thought nor caution to your actions. Often, the target of your attentions was food. You were quite the glutton and food was never far from your mind, with apples being your favourite.
There was a purity to everything you did. Of course, this was not without its downsides: often you were tactless and brutally honest to a fault. Unfortunately, you thought that the world was also honest and truthful. You did not understand liars nor the darker side of life or rather, you refused to acknowledge it.
Because you had black wings, people always thought that you were unlucky. But you never let that bother you. You were focused on having fun. That's all that mattered.
