You can't seem to recall how it started, but you remember there being a light. A light that engulfed all of what you once used to know, casting away the shadows, and liberating you from the cage you were once trapped within. He might've not known this in the beginning, and frankly, you cannot bring yourself to blame him. For he, a prince, probably wouldn't find the significance of your initial desire to strive and become a better person. His kindness, those gentle words were something that touched the very center of your core while others brushed you off as a figment of their every day lives.
You felt something inside of you change, something that wished to create a new aspect of which made you human.
He became the primary reason why you got up in the mornings, measuring each and every change your body underwent with the vigorous training regimen you established for yourself. Before you knew it, you were walking side by side with that very person the moment you set a single foot in front of your new high school. You gathered the courage swelling inside of your chest, willing yourself to even utter a single word in his direction with a brilliant smile without skipping a beat. You didn't know it at the time, but he remembered you. It became evident that this moment became the turning point that changed your life entirely. Who knew that one day you were destined to become one of the prince's companions on his way to establish peace between Tenebrae and Niflheim in the form of a wedding.
Exciting as it may be, you still needed to make sure that you were kept on your toes. However, the minute your party arrived at the port, you found yourselves being halted by a change of events. Boats were not being sent out, or so a strange man alerted your group of this the minute you arrived. Something about him sent shivers rippling up and down your spine, but you weren't sure what exactly it meant. Ardyn, the name spoken with a low roll of the tongue. The tides of change clearly were not in your favor the minute the word of grave news that has befallen Insomnia. The King has fallen. The peace treaty became nothing but a fraud, destroying Insomnia from the inside out, causing destruction in the city and countless innocent lives were lost. Or so the headlines displayed in bold letters that are forever engraved in your mind.
By the time you return to Insomnia the place has been overtaken by enemy soldiers which makes infiltration a lot difficult than you initially anticipated. Circumstances that Insomnia now faces causes your group to leave with a heavy heart upon learning that the word about the king were indeed true. Not to mention that now both your best friend and his bride to be are supposed to be also dead according to reports. Luckily, help wasn't too far behind once Cor managed to make an appearance offering your group a sense of comfort in knowing that a fighting chance still remained among you in order to take back the kingdom. Of course, it wasn't going to be easy, but you were ready for anything nonetheless.
While it pained you to know that the proud ruler of Insomnia wasn't present among you, you still held his image on high which served as a beacon of faith that one day things could turn for the better. Royal tombs were your next objective on the 'save Insomnia' agenda. Cor offered assistance in the form of information, granting your party the key which lied in those very tombs that were aforementioned with the task entailing that powers should be unleashed from their sleep in each location so that Noctis could gain the powers of his ancestors, reclaiming his position as King. You could see the pain lingering in your prince's face. All of that weight hoisted onto his shoulders all at once without being able to grieve properly.
You simply couldn't imagine what it felt like to lose everything and not be able to take a moment to even breathe. It must be hard to take in, but all you can do is help him carry that very same weight he's been placed under. You need to support your friend and your prince as best as you possibly can with every ounce of your strength regardless of how long it'll take. As if that wasn't enough, along the way you ended up having to face the opposing empire whose schemes led them to reach the border of the neighboring tombs. You weren't going to let them get away with it, not as long as you had a part to play in this.
Roads led you to various encounters that proved themselves to be far more difficult than what you bargained for. The sights that were seen along the way were nothing but breathtaking, and you couldn't help but marvel at their splendor.
The meteor commonly known as the Disc, the city, its people, a lot of things managed to capture your attention as you ventured onward to your next destination along with your companions. Upon reaching Lestallum, you were reunited with Gladio's younger sister, Iris, who greeted your group with glee. She'd been worried that you all had been caught in the line of fire, but the sight eased her worries. It felt nice to have someone want you to make it out of that whole ordeal in one piece.
It'd been here where your group caught wind of a legend of a sword concealed from sight by a waterfall. Adrenaline pumped through your veins at the potential lead you gained to your next destination that'd help Noctis further. Spending time together, even if your life is sometimes on the line whenever faced with enemies, made you feel like you were important in something. As if your presence played a part in this whole thing which gave you the strength to continue with each new discovery. Who would've thought that you'd wind up helping the future king proclaim his rightful place on the throne anyway, huh?
Nevertheless, your thoughts were now set on retrieving that sword. The road to reach it wasn't particularly easy with enemies lurking around every corner, but your attempts weren't fruitless which allowed Noctis to gain possession of yet another sacred sword. But that didn't mean that you left that cave unscathed, for your prince's condition seemed to be on the decline. Your worries began to bubble to the surface, craving nothing more than to aid him in any possible way you could. You didn't wish to let your friend down, much less in his time of need. And if your destination meant that you needed to step closer towards that burning piece of rock that came crashing down from the sky, then so be it.
The crossing of paths with that strange man you met at the port became something none of you expected. He escorted you all the way to the Disc where, to your surprise, a royal tomb rested in wait for the arrival of the royal lineage to stand at its feet. The Titan. It'd been standing there who knows how long, and it didn't really look all too friendly which only made your chest constrict and your breath to hitch. You'd never expect something so grand to be residing there in all of his rage and power, almost unstoppable. Paths were diverged, causing your party to split into two groups. You didn't wish to be separated. Not like this. So you tried to reunite with your other comrades as quickly as your feet can possibly carry you.
Regardless of your efforts, it seemed as if the gods were playing a trick on you and steps drifted towards a completely different direction. You stood there in the midst of a landscape you'd never seen before, and the minute you turned around nothing made sense. Your friends were nowhere to be seen anywhere, much less the Titan you swore your gaze had fixed themselves upon for a good, solid minute. Now you wander in a completely parallel world, desperately trying to find a way to reunite with your teammates, hoping that one day your fate graces you with the knowledge that you've indeed regained a piece of familiarity in a strange, strange world.
letters to you
How long as it been since I last saw you? Frankly, I can't really remember. Only bits and pieces fill my memory and.. I just can't even align them right for them to make sense. Both you and Iggy were there, and Gladio.. well. I remember him yelling at you, but that's all I can get myself to recall. Every time I try to figure out what happened after that everything becomes blank. That doesn't mean I don't remember everything, though. Even if some of the things I wish I could forget.. but that isn't the case. At least i know for a fact that I haven't lost my mind or anything like that. It'd definitely would make things difficult now that I live in Elysion.
Oh, right.. you probably don't even know what that is. Well, ever since we separated I found myself in this entirely new place. I guess it's like an entirely different universe and I can't really figure out where it is. It feels like home, but.. kinda' not, if that makes any sense? It feels strange not being around you guys, but I guess I have to get used to the way things are now. This is turning into a letter more than I originally thought, huh? If that's the case, I can take the chance to thank you guys for everything you've done for me. Yeah, I know what you're probably going to say, and.. I kind of don't agree with you. It is a big deal, and no.. you can't tell me that it "isn't a problem".
You guys don't understand what your friendship means to me. I haven't really taken the time to really say it because I feel like I'm just going to end up ranting and you'll probably get tired of listening to me. This is a lot easier since I'm just jotting down my thoughts, considering I know this letter is never going to reach any of you. Ignis, thanks for always being there to make us super awesome meals. You make everything taste amazing and I really don't know how you do it. While I may not say it, I totally look up to you. I can't cook to save my own life, much less when I'm reading a cook book. Honestly, I'd probably end up cooking the book rather than what's on it. Just.. don't tell anyone that.
Next up is you, Big Guy. We all know why we admire you. I mean, guys would kill for body like yours. I can't even imagine what I'd look like if I had one like yours and.. it kind of scares me to start. I dunno, you're just.. not what you seem to be. I don't mean it in a bad thing! You'd just expect someone who looks like you to be flaunting, be followed by girls, and just being arrogant. But you're not. I really like that about you, and I just like who you are.. even if I don't really say it as often. I don't say any of this often to you guys because it's just not me. You wouldn't expect me to just start gushing out about my feelings out of the blue.
I know you, out of everyone else, wouldn't expect something like that. Right, Noct? You've seen me at my worst and my best. I can't really ask for a better friend than you, even if sometimes we don't really see eye to eye. I still remember when we were younger; the way you seemed to hold yourself around other people. Something about you just felt cold at first, but after I started talking to you more and more I found out that it wasn't that you were cold at all. You're.. actually very warm. You're the reason why I've tried so hard. To be able to catch up to you, to be someone who is worthy to walk beside you. I want to give people what you offer to others.
And, what I meant by that is.. you care. You care a lot for others than you let on. Sure, sometimes you don't really know what to say to them and it's funny to tease you, but nevertheless, I admire you for that. I admire all of you for who you are. No matter where we might end up in you guys will always be on my mind. It still feels strange to know that I probably won't see any of you again. I managed to find a job somehow as a waiter. It was pretty tough at first since I'm not really used to that sort of thing, but I'm definitely learning quickly. I just find it a little difficult whenever night rolls around.
I can't believe that I somehow ended up missing camping with you guys when booking a hotel sounded like a better idea. There was just something about it that I now find myself wanting. Course, doing it on my own isn't an issue but it's not the point. It isn't the same when it's by myself when it should be with you all. I remember when we used to talk around the campfire till the sun almost came up and Gladio would still make us get up early. There's some things I can never replace, and things I need to work on getting over. It's hard, but I have to keep going. I know that none of you would want me to just mope all the time, and I'm trying.
It's also hard to come to terms with knowing that maybe you're all mad at me for something or another. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. Heh, who could tell me that now, right? Not like we'll just magically find each other here. If we actually could.. I'd tell you all how sorry I am. Sorry for not being good enough, sorry for always being the one who drags you down. And honestly, I don't blame you for pushing me aside the way you did. I needed to learn. Which is what I'm doing now and becoming better. I want to become stronger, live up to your expectations. So keep watching over me from wherever you are. I promise I'm not going to let any of you guys down. You can definitely count on that.
