"In a new land there's you and I"
There's a soft feeling of helplessness that you couldn't help reaching out to envelope in your own little shelter of light. You do not understand the emotion at the time but you are more than willing to offer your heart as shelter if it means the individual gets to keep on living. It was the last time you felt anything of that nature for a couple of years so you enjoy your peace with your best friend Riku on your little island. You were four when you come across a woman with blue hair and brilliant eyes that could rival your own sky colored ones. She was nice and you don't quite get what she was talking about only that you promise to protect Riku forever as well as to always be there for him if the need were to ever arise. She makes you smile, you like her and her kindness but you can't help but feel something was...off...wrong...sad.
She departs from your little island and you couldn't help but to look at your best friend with a new determination before the both of you sprint off on another adventure.
You're running when you find yourself suddenly out of breath, as if you were caught up in the current of the ocean and your sinking. It was just a brief flicker before you find yourself lagging behind your best friend and a look of concern edged into his turquoise gaze. He mentions something and you bring your small hand up to your cheek to find it wet with a single tear. You blink, a look of confusion because you were just find moments ago and now you feel this immense sadness. You press your hand to your chest and make a silent vow to keep the presence in your heart safe - even might you forget.
For the longest of times, things are peaceful. The urge to explore the world beyond the islands was subtle until someone new arrived, someone that fed a new desire in your best friend in which you couldn't help but to grin and promise to go where ever he was dragged off to.
This newcomer, Kairi (who arrived during a meteor shower), makes your duo into a trio and you cannot help but to welcome her with open arms and a wide smile as the mayor of Destiny Islands adopts her into their home. She makes you smile in a way that you didn't think was possible because everyone made you smile. You were known as the kid who had to have been born from the sun itself with the light you radiated, but Kairi...Kairi was someone special and she unknowingly became another charge to protect. The thought of anything happening to either of your best friends tore at you in a way that you did not want to ever think about. Instead you flashed a smile and joined into whatever you were being dragged to do (usually Kairi while Riku lagged behind throwing out some random comment to rile you up). Yeah, life was great and although it seemed repetitive at times, you wouldn't change it for the world.
Although you wouldn't change your life for the world, fate had a different idea involving you and your two best friends. Who would have thought that you would have woken up with the urge to find Riku and witness darkness taking over your home? How your legs burned as you ran from ink-black creature with glowing yellow eyes that scraped and clawed at your legs in an attempt to drag you down into the shadows. With your heart hammering in your chest you find yourself stumbling to the little island that held the fondest of memories - to find Riku in the center of it looking out into the abyss of the ocean. Your lungs burn but you know you have to get to him, you have to stick together in this strange occurance and together you'll find Kairi and maybe a place to consider safe from what you have yet to understand. Your feet carry you forward a couple of steps and the silver-haired boy turns to meet your gaze and an outstretched hand.
He's talking nonsense, or maybe everything makes sense but you just can't help to believe it doesn't because you don't know what is going on anymore. You are afraid. Your body is shaking with the desire to flee and hide but your heart is telling you to stay...to fight this unknown together. You promised. You swallow down the lump in your throat as you move to grasp Riku's hand but there's darkness and it's separating the both of you and you struggle just barely brushing his fingertips before you find yourself being pulled under.
The darkness filled your lungs and all you can wonder is if this was what drowning felt like? Is this what the fishermen caught in bad storms endured and never made it back to the Islands? Your struggling to fight against whatever had its claws in you, but you were growing weaker and your last thought before all sensation left you was:
'I hope Kairi and Riku are safe...'
You find yourself in a new land, Traverse Town, being greeted by a yellow dog licking your face to bring you back into the world of the living. Your head hurts and clearly you are lost but you had bigger things to worry about because you were alone. You move around the town meeting new faces some nice...others a little gruff but no one that seemed threatening in the slightest. You encounter the strange yellow-eyed shadow in this world when you ventured out of the safety zone and that's when a strange key shaped weapon appeared in your hands and you found yourself taking out the little shadows. You have no idea why/how this weapon came to be in your hands but you are grateful because you are still breathing.
You can still find your friends.
It isn't until you wander back into the safe district that you are encountered by an older male with a scar on his face, you learn later that his name is Leon, but he decides to attack you. You don't know why until he's won the fight and you find yourself waking up in a hotel room surrounded my strange faces and learn the reason that the older male decided to fight you. He had been wrangling the Keyblade from you to stop the Heartless (shadow creatures that liked to still hearts) from chasing after you because they were drawn to your newly acquired weapon.
Cid, Yuffie, Leon, and Aerith quickly become allies in your new task as Keyblade Master, but the ones that truly aid you on your new adventure are the King's Servants, Donald and Goofy. The Royal Magician and Captain of the Royal Guard. They're silly and they are tasked with following the person wielding the Keyblade, plus they have a Gummy Ship that would help in traveling all sorts of worlds with the goal of locking hidden keyholes to prevent the darkness from spreading any more. Closing the Keyholes were a task, but after seeing Riku in Traverse Town only to run off, you remembered that your primary goal was to find your friends and bring them home...you need to keep them safe.
In a way the friends that you've lost do end up safe if you look past the fact that one is a puppet without a heart and the other is being manipulated by the darkness and all you can do is scream in frustration because you still don't fully understand what is going on...only that you need to save your friends and fix everything that went wrong. You have Donald and Goofy at your side every step of the way, but it doesn't lessen the feeling that this is your responsibility all given to you because the Keyblade chose you.
You're a hero.
A boy wielding a weapon of myths from some lone place known as Destiny Islands who's been destined to save not only your own world, but the countless ones lost to the invading darkness. You are determined to set things right from making your friends whole again to traveling to every world that needs your help because you are good. It's a harrowing trek (especially when Riku likes to show up and taunt you, to pull your strings) but you see the light at the end of the road and know...just know...that everything is about to come to an end and you're still breathing. The weight of the Keyblade was starting to grow heavy but you weren't one for giving up so early - not with countless people like those at Traverse Town who are counting on you to bring their worlds back.
When it was time to face the end of your adventure you are faced with Riku who steals the Keyblade from you (rightfully his in the first place) until your strength/determination of your heart makes it rightfully yours.
You steal it back and you continue forth after he has disappeared because your job wasn't done. You, Donald, and Goofy face off against Maleficent and win which lead you to finding Kairi's body and confronting Ansem, a figure who's been behind everything from the beginning, who's possessed Riku's body. You learn Kairi's a Princess of Heart, one of seven hearts pure of light, who has been hiding within your own heart. You fought against the stranger inside your friend's body before taking the other's keyblade and impaling yourself in order to free Kairi's heart along with your own.
You are turned into the very creature you sought to destroy, a Heartless, but as you follow your friends out of the castle, Kairi saves you and reverts you back into something new.
This journey was yet to be over because Ansem had escaped into the Realm of Darkness which you followed in after making sure all seven princesses were safe. You, Donald, and Goofy fought the man in front of a door in which the other believes to harbor a reservoir of darkness, but you didn't believe such thing. You knew from your travels that no matter how much darkness lingered in a spot - there was always light and when you opened the door, the crushing light that flooded out into the open destroyed Ansem. Everything was righted and you were ready to return home, but Riku was on the other side of the very door that needed to be sealed unless the world be flooded with more Heartless.
Here you were with the decision of locking up the door despite breaking your promise in returning Riku to safety...you were dooming him to the Realm of Darkness. You hesitate no matter what he says to you because you didn't want to doom him, but you didn't want to doom the worlds, either.
You couldn't be selfish though, that just wasn't who you were.
You made a promise to find Riku no matter how long it would take...you, Donald, and Goofy would find him and the King but for now you had to seal the door and restore the lost worlds. You take a deep breath, close the door, and raised your blade to seal it with a fiery determination. Your adventure to save find would continue just a little longer and at least this time Kairi was safe and sound while he went further into the unknown.
"Where fears and lies melt away"
Everything was restored as you and your group found themselves wandering down an endless trail with no idea where to even begin looking for King Mickey and Riku. As you travel, you spot a familiar golden furred dog that belonged to the King, Pluto. He held something important in his maul, a letter from the King, and your group didn't think twice before taking off after the animal. It wasn't long before you stumbled upon a castle (directed to you by a man in black robes) in the middle of nowhere, but with no where else to go you enter.
This castle held more questions than answers that seem to be ignored by the hooded figures that taunted you.
Upon entering, you and your group realize that you have lost knowledge of all of your abilities. The hooded man reappears and states that the further into the castle you go, the more memories you would lose but at the same time you'd gain new ones. Inwardly, you were frightened at the thought of losing your memories...of all the friends you've made over the years as well as just losing yourself in the process - outwardly, you put on a brave face because if this meant finding the King and Riku, than so be it.
A deck of cards are given to you with only the directions of "everything that you encounter will be based on memories". With that in mind, you move forward fighting off anything and everything that gets in your way. You learn that the hooded figures are part of a group called "the Organization" and as you continue down your path you start to remember a girl named, Namine. You know she needs help, she is your best friend after all, and the Organization member Larxene tells you that she's locked away in the Castle he resided in. With more determination, you move forward fighting your way only to hesitate when you come across Riku (a replica 'who you believe to be the real Riku' created by Organization member Vexen) stops you in your path with intention of stopping you from getting to Namine.
It's after this that you finally reunite with Namine, only to learn that she was the one manipulating your memories. You feel betrayed because this was your friend (was she really) and she tells you that the lord of Castle Oblivion and Organization member, Maluxia, made her do it. Maluxia was also the member to lead you into the castle in order to use you to overthrow the rest of their Organization with the member Larxene.
You realize that right now was not the time to get lost in what you don't remember because Maluxia still needed to be defeat.
You still needed to get your memories righted and with that thought in mind you venture to the top of Castle Oblivion where you face off against the pink-haired Organization member and the rest that followed him. With them out of the way and your memories of life before you entered the castle gone, you and your group are put into giant flower-like pods designed to house you while Namine pieced your memories back together despite forgetting all that transpired in the castle. You are determined that the memories in your heart will stay and you make her promise that when you awoken you would meet as real friends.
Those memories are forgotten.
"What's left of me"
Brilliant blue eyes that could rival the sky itself pop open as your thoughts start to flood into your mind as if a floodgate broke. Your head pounds and the light that greeted you was painful but it wasn't long before you made out the distinct shapes of your friends, Donald and Goofy. You give them a genuine smile if a little weak from the sudden awareness that took over your frame. It took a few moments of realization to hit before you became aware of the fact that you three had been sleeping for an entire year. You needed answers, but first you needed new clothes...but that was just a minor inconvenience.
It would seem that the person to lead you to what you needed was none-other-than the King, Mickey, himself. You came across him in the town's train station that held your hidden pod,Twilight Town.
He was being secretive along with avoiding any questions you begged to be answered about Riku since your silver-haired friend was trapped in the world of darkness with him, but instead you sluggishly offered your thanks as your small crew left on a train with the determination to find Riku because if the King was freed, so was he.
The mysterious train takes you to a tower where you run into an individual named Pete that apparently Donald and Goofy were all too familiar about. You learn that he still believed Maleficent to be in power in which you smugly tell him that she's been defeated by none-other-than yourself and he takes off. You enter the tower where you meet an elder man known as Yen Sid, Master Yen Sid, a powerful wizard that holds more knowledge than he's willing to share. He directs you onto a new adventure in finding Riku, and taking out Organization XII who controls the Nobodies (beings created from the shell left over of a person with a strong heart who's been turned into a Heartless) after donning new attire with magical properties gifted by the three fairies.
It isn't long before word spreads of Maleficent's resurrection and Pete following along in her stead to do whatever would keep him on his good side. You travel to various worlds both new and old restoring peace that was disrupted by the Heartless, the Nobodies, Organization XII, Maleficent, Pete, and the local villains.
In and out of the many worlds, you often return to Hallow Bastion (the home world of the friends you've made in Traverse Town) in order to catch any new information that might help along the way. You were made an honorary member of the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee created by Leon and company in order to fix up the area from the damage Maleficent dealt. You are tired and sometimes the Keyblade starts to feel heavy again but you know how to bare the weight especially with the support of your friends. You're too far into the chaos and you can't help but to lean on your friends a little more every here or there. You are glad that Goofy and Donald were able to stick to your side because you often find yourself wondering if it was just you...would you keep going?
You push through to see the smiles on various friends faces after you've helped them, on faces of those who can rest easy because you've saved them from dangers that no one else should have to face. You realize that you've grown and it helps to keep a positive outlook or else the enemy wins. They will not win if you have anything to say about it. You will find a way to defeat them and return home. You shake those thoughts away as you find yourself returning to Hallow Bastion once more only to learn that Leon had found a hidden computer room belonging to Ansem the Wise inside the castle that you first fought Maleficent in.
It was there that you run into King Mickey who reveals that the Heartless named Ansem that you fought over a year ago - was an impostor by the name Xehanort. You also learn that it was Xehanort was an apprentice of the real Ansem the Wise, and his Nobody, Xemnas, was was the leader of Organization XII. The man behind a majority of all the recent turmoil...
You are confronted with a swarm of Heartless that have regained power that you and your friends of Hallow Bastion are tasked with defeating. Axel appears telling you of the Organization's plan and you're not quite sure how to feel about it. Their goal to seek Kingdom Hearts, the sum of all hearts that you freed by defeating Heartless in order to regain Hearts of their own, was understandable yet could not happen. You were not a shell of your former self so you could not begin to understand the thought of having a body but lack the ability to feel emotion...to truly feel alive. Before you can question anything else, Axel flees just as Saix appears telling you that he was holding Kairi captive.
You know that the Organization has to be stopped...they cannot succeed or else doom the rest of the worlds with them. You leave with a new weight on your shoulders, the feeling of despair on what to do about killing Heartless, saving Kairi, and revisit ing worlds with the intention of discovering the Organization's base of operations. More than once you are aided by a figure that you believed to belong with said Organization, but you soon start to believe that it was Riku despite him evading you at every turn.
The more members of the Organization that you face, the more they call you 'Roxas' and frankly it was starting to get irritating. Your name was no where similar to that of Roxas and you didn't even know who the guy was or why they kept calling you it despite clarifying more than once - that your name was Sora. In the end, the members were in your way of defeating Xemnas and had to be eliminated in order to bring peace to all the worlds once again. You get a lead that takes you back to Twilight Town, where your journey began and you encounter Axel, who now appears to be completely rid of the Organisation. You struggle to watch as the Pyromaniac sacrifices himself in order to open up a passageway that would lead you to 'The World That Never Was', the world that held Kingdom Hearts and the Organization's base as well as hear his apology for kidnapping Kairi in the first place which landed her in Saix's hands. You venture forth prepared for whatever was to come.
It was the place where you reunited with Kairi.
The place where you found Riku.
You couldn't help the way your knees trembled as you reached out for your longtime friend and struggled around emotions so tight as you expressed relief at realizing he was safe. He was not lost to darkness and he was - solid despite wearing the guise of an impostor defeated a year ago. With your friends with you, anything was possible. Things still needed to be done and you would sort out your emotions later but until then you found yourself back on your feet and going after the enemy. There wasn't a need to continue to look for him and now it was time to finish the last Organization member, Xemnas.
Too many people relied on you and you would be damned to let them down.
You learn of Roxas, your Nobody. Everything makes more sense when you learn that your Nobody was a part of the Organization and the members that you fought kept referring to you as him because they tried to awaken him deep within you. It sadden to learn that he had to sacrifice himself in order for you to awaken, but you vowed to find a way to free him when the time came.
You learn of Namine, Kairi's Nobody, and a name that sounds too familiar to have forgotten but you don't have time to dwell.
You learn of DiZ who is actually the real 'Ansem the Wise' and the apprentice of Xehanort. He shares with you and your company of the machine he has built in order to dissipate some of Kingdom Hearts power, but while in use the machine overloads and an explosion captures Ansem and Riku in its radius. Your heart stops because you only just got back one of your best friends only to lose him again. It would seem that jumping to conclusions wasn't necessary because although Ansem was gone, Riku had been reverted back to his original appearance although with longer hair. You couldn't help but to smile because now he would be by your side with the fight against Xemnas. It was too dangerous for Kairi to join and you would rather her stay as far from danger as possible.
A final battle broke out at the top of the Castle That Never Was, against Xemnas who wielded the remaining power stored within Kingdom Hearts and your company.
When it was all said and done, you and Riku won but you found yourselves drifting on a dark beach with an endless abyss to start out at. Your arm supported your injured friend as you settled the both of you on the shore. During the battle you had been separated from those that helped, leaving you and Riku to dwell in the Realm of Darkness. The silence between the both of you is comfortable knowing that everyone was safe despite not securing your own safety.
You were not alone, and you would not allow Riku to be alone, not again if you could help it.
If destiny wanted you both to wither away in the darkness on a beach that resembled home, than so be it. If not, well, you always had a knack at finding your way out of trouble especially if there was someone on the other side waiting for your return. Kairi was still out there and she was too stubborn to let the both of you drift away and leave her behind. After all she was a Princess of Heart, who grew up on the islands with her two boys and you knew in your heart that she would drag the both of you guys back from the ends of the world.
You glance at Riku and flash a smile because you doubted this would be the end.
This was just a new beginning.
