She was breathing heavily and her entire body was shaking, but she had to keep on running. They weren’t far behind her. They would bring her back to that godawful place. There they would starve her and keep her from being who she was; of what she was. Her lungs were on fire, tears were streaming down her face and she believed that any moment her heart would stop beating. That was how tired she had been upon her escape. That was what hunger did to someone like her. She was born a ghoul and they had captured her as punishment for that fact. She doesn’t recall how long she had ran before she finally collapsed of exhaustion. There she was found by a man who called himself Sachi, though she quickly learned this was only an alias. His real name was Kamishiro Matasaka and he was a ghoul like her.
Matasaka quickly became a father figure to the young girl. She even took on his name: Kamishiro Rize. He taught her how to feed without needlessly killing humans; he found that ghouls and humans could live in complete harmony if necessary. Sadly, he soon discovered that Rize had a much larger appitite that he had originally anticipated. She began overeating, much to his protest, but enjoyed the murder aspect to such a degree that she stopped caring about his opinions. These actions eventually lead to a CCG raid within the 6th ward, which they called home at the time, and the capture of her surrogate father Matasaka. Dealing with this loss struck her harder than she could’ve foreseen. As a result, she decided to cut all ties and live a nomadic life.
While drifting between various wards, Rize met delightful ghouls that she ended up calling friends. Yet, even the ones closest to her hardly knew anything about her. They all knew she loved books. The more obscure a writer or a book was, the larger the chance of her already knowing about them and having enjoyed them, was. They also knew that she was a very passionate ghoul; hunting wise and sexual wise. She was known to combine the two, much like a black widow spider. She would lure attractive men to her bed and after she climaxed, or if they finished first which would only result in a much more painful death, she would puncture them with her kagune and feed on them. She called many wards her home, but seemed nowhere to be found when her binge-eating habits drew the attention of the CCG, who were still out looking for her.
She remembers haunting her prey and driving him into the corner. A weak boy who fell fast and hard for her innocent act. A smile here, a flattering remark there, a slight show of her cleavage and he was hers. She remembered tasting his flesh, the blood dripping down her chin and the hunger that stirred within her. The shock within his eyes as his body stood paralyzed with fear and the realization that he was going to die. She remembered laughing, taunting him with her words and piercing him easily with her kagune. He was such an easy target; a mouse caught in the trap of a snake. She remembered watching him run from her, only to be pierced by her kagune again and again. The thrill it gave her to see vermin flee from their inevitable deaths. She had all the power as she was all powerful. She ate more than any other ghoul, which should mean she was faster and stronger than other ghouls. She remembers wanting to finish him off, and that was the end of her life in Tokyo.
